Rain, Rain go away!

Just a quick update today.

Thank goodness we poured the footers on Thursday. It rained extremely hard Friday and Saturday. If we hadn't poured, the footer trenches would have surely filled up with silt. Who knew that Tallahassee would see summer thunderstorms this late in the year??? There was actually tornado warnings this weekend.

We didn't escape completely without some damage. The driveway culvert had some washout areas. I spent the weekend restoring the driveway entrance and building a temporary retaining wall at the culvert ends. Let's hope the rain is done for the year.

Block is being laid this week. We aren't too far from pouring the slab!

  1. Hey, Chad: I'm a student at TCC, where I'm currently enrolled in an Environmental Systems class. We have a group project centering around an environmental issue due right after the Thanksgiving break, and my group and I are doing ours on green building.

We stumbled across your blog wile doing research (via google, I'm afraid), and we were hoping that we could incorporate you and your quest to build green into our project. Would you consider consenting to a video interview sometime before Thanksgiving? I know that that's a busy time for everyone, but we would love to talk to you about building standards, why being green is so important to you, and the roadbumps that inevitably come up in any home construction project.

Feel free to contact me at operarat@hotmail.com.

Hope to hear from you soon -
